Memory Vows

Memory Vows represents the primitive part of the brain called the Insular Lobe. It is here that, amongst other functions, it is responsible for connecting memories.

The image is taken from an African Nkisi whereby the act of placing a nail into a spiritual figure constitutes a memory of that vow. Its placing must be remembered when the nail is removed after fulfilling the vow.

Photographs by Steve Russell and Sue F.
