This piece was inspired by a visit to Pompeii where the burnt bodies’ last covering of hot ash created cavities within the cooling ash. When discovered by archaeologists, the cavities were filled with plaster, the hardened ash chipped away, revealing the body shape with the plaster.
Positives into negatives, negatives into positives, absence and presence are symbolised here by the empty shrouds to remind us of our last covering and the spaces we inhabit.
